The Enzyme Technology Research Group at the Department of Biotechnology & Food Science stands out for its ongoing pursuit of groundbreaking biotechnological advancements, reflected in its impressive publication record, external funding, national and international. collaborations and postgraduate capacity development (Masters, PhD & Post-doctoral levels). Comprising a blend of established (NRF-rated) and emerging researchers, this team focuses. on enzymology, protein engineering, biocatalysis, biofuels, and bioactive products research, all with significant economic promise.

Applications from suitable candidates are invited for a Post-doctoral Fellowship to join this vibrant team for a project on: “Multiomics-based bioprospecting for microbial metabolites with industrial potential”.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Candidates are expected to have good organisational skills and the ability to work on a tight schedule;
  • be able to work independently and collaboratively;
  • ability to support multiple research projects simultaneously in a fast-paced academic environment;
  • strong working relationships with relevant stakeholders;
  • ability to generate new/novel research ideas and produce innovative research and the ability to write proposals for external funding.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • PhD in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or equivalent
  • Obtained a PhD within the last five years
  • Demonstrated experience in any of the OMICS techniques
  • Good publication track record in peer-reviewed ISI journals. Ability to think analytically and creatively
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in Bioprocessing
  • Cloning and Expression
  • Proteins/peptides purification and characterisation
  • Knowledge in bioinformatics
  • Hands-on experience handling high-end analytical equipment
  • Use of advanced statistical tools
