About the Programme

The proposed Capacity Building Programme is significant because it addresses the growing need for professional development of faculty members in the area of research. Many faculty members have rich teaching experience and subject knowledge but require further orientation in research design, methodological tools, data analysis, academic writing and publication ethics. This programme will help bridge that gap by providing a structured academic platform. It will also support young faculty members in applying for research grants, participating in interdisciplinary projects and contributing to evidence-based knowledge production. By strengthening the research skills of faculty members, the programme will indirectly contribute to improving the quality of teaching, curriculum development, research supervision, institutional research output and policy-relevant social science research.

Details of Social science research

Social science research is a dynamic and ever-changing domain. New studies and the latest publications bring along unknown facts and interpretations, make us aware of novel ways of looking at research, and push us toward new approaches, perspectives and methods of making deeper sense of social realities. These developments in the field of knowledge creation make social science research an ever evolving area rather than a static one.

An added impetus has come from the National Education Policy 2020. It has clearly identified the need for augmenting research. It aspires to integrate vocational education, foster multidisciplinary research, enrich educational institutions, and embed education with Bharatiya Gyan Parampara. It has clearly taken new initiatives breaking from the past boundaries, which, in order to be effective, requires capacity enhancement and reorientation of the academicians. Critical thinking and problem solving techniques, which are at the core of the policy, require skills and comprehensive understanding of research methodology (Indic Methodology), techniques and the most of all an in-depth understanding of Bharatiya Gyan Parampara to be able to ground research to the Indian realities and make it fruitful for the society. The research skill is required as an educational learning, management and evaluation tool as well as an output generator with the potential to make higher education a partner in the nation’s journey of development.

A major goal of the Capacity Building Programme is to promote and emphasize the usages of scientific tools and techniques by the faculty members in higher education for conducting quality research, which helps in improving the standards in higher educational institutes and brings about excellence.
